I went through my own period of turmoil regarding whether or not I could function as a gay person, along with everything else I had taken on in life. After I finish school, I decided that I should throw away that confusion and embrace myself for both who and what I am. This book had not been written yet, but I could just imagine how significant it would have been if I could have read it at that moment in my life. I was in my mid 20s, well before the time when Dr. Olson went through his own metamorphosis, but so much of what he shared in the text of this book would have resonated with me anyway. I never tried to be a straight person myself, but I did try to be asexual. Even if what Dr. Olson wrote here is not intended to be “a miracle cure“, it still stands up as a mind opener. I definitely recommend it highly to anybody still questioning what they are. I encountered Dr. Olson over Facebook. He gave great promotion to this book on his wall, and I was definitely fascinated by it. After listening to it on Amazon audible, I knew I needed a printed copy for myself. I came out fairly late and being in the closet for so long, I have a lot of unanswered questions about being gay. I read Dr. Olson's Q and A's several times an find that his answers are spot on. Then I found out about his book. I was amazed of how similar my experience with Dr. Olson's. My cultural background pretty much shunned people for being gay and the expectation is for a man to marry and have children. I already know my tendency since I was young but choose to suppress it. Dr. Olson's book clearly list all the history, background and being a psychiatrist, he also give the medical background of "the situation". I also have tendency to be attracted to older men. Dr. Olson perfectly described the situation without prejudice. People tend to judge men who are looking for older companion as "gold digger", "daddy issue" and all negative terms. Dr. Olson explained there's science behind this kind of attraction, something that probably surprising for most people but actually perfectly normal, it's just how my brain process the signals and hormones that I find attractive in older people. This is a "must have" people that have suppressing their true nature just to conform with society. It will change your life for the better and you will thank Dr. Olson for explaining it for you.
