I read the first book over a year ago and really enjoyed it. I was looking forward to the sequel. However, I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as the first one. I felt there were too many characters introduced too quickly and did not really get a chance reconnect with them from the first book before new ones were added. I just never really felt invested in this story as I did with the first one. Fires of Change is Book 2 following The Fire Blossom by Sarah Lark. I love this author and have also read her trilogy In the Land of the Long White Cloud. As in Fire of Change she writes about people settling in New Zealand during the 1800’s and their characters are so well defined that you hate to end the book and leave them. Her books are fiction, but there are a lot of historical facts that are imbedded in her stories. I have learned a lot about New Zealand and the Maori people who are natives of this land. Her characters encounter all sorts of tribulations...danger, loss, sickness, and death. There were times I would be so mad at one of the characters that I wanted to jump in the story and take care of what was happening!! There is also love, romance, and happiness and there is never a dull minute. I have read most of her books and once I start reading one of them, I can’t put them down.
